The assumption of the Virgin Mary has been celebrated since the 5th Century. It was in 1950 that the Pope proclaimed the dogma (incontrovertibly true or infallible) of Mary's assumption of body and soul into Heaven. It is said that Thomas The Apostle went to Mary's tomb and opened it. The body was not there. Later, Mary dropped her girdle from Heaven to the Apostles, showing she had truly ascended with her body.
"O Holy and blessed Mother of God You who were assumed into heaven, both soul and body. You bring us hope and consolation. May we be illuminated by the purity and clarity of your of wisdom, so that we too may enter into the kingdom."
