Died: 316 AD
Feast Day: February 3

St. Blaise was a physician of both body and soul. Even wild animals were drawn to him. A woman once came to him falling on her knees asking the saint to save her small child who was choking on a fish bone. Blaise immediately healed the child. Legend also has it that a woman ran to him for help when a wolf had seized her pig. St. Blaise commanded the wolf to return the pig unharmed, which it did. Blaise was seized, tortured for his faith and thrown in a dungeon. The woman whose pig he had saved brought two candles to light the darkness. To this day, candles are placed over ones head or neck in a prayer for healing.

"Through the intercession of Saint Blaise, bishop and martyr, may God deliver us
from every disease of the throat and from every other illness."
